The Cockleshell Raid
St.Nicholas Primary School, 8:00pm

An illustrated talk by Dr Robert Lyman.
The exciting story of the Cockleshell Heroes.
Winston Churchill believed the mission shortened
the Second World War by six months and
Admiral Louis Mountbatten, the commander of Combined Operations,
deemed the raid "the most courageous and imaginative of all the raids
ever carried out by the men of Combined Operations".
Dr Robert Lyman, living in Shurlock Row, was born in New Zealand,
educated in Australia and commissioned into the Light Infantry
from the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst.
He was an officer in the British Army for twenty years.
Entry free for HVS members (donations for a glass of wine
at the end of the evening would be appreciated).
